This will depend on the type of appointment you require which will be established on completion of the initial screening form. Prices are provided on enquiry and will include all elements for the relevant appointment type. Our identification process always includes:

• screening measures
• liaison with school, college or workplace
• face-to-face meetings including the use of gold standard, NICE recommended tools
• a multi-disciplinary approach
• other elements as required (e.g. ADOS-2, MIGDAS, QB Check for ADHD, a standardised cognitive assessment as required, a sensory assessment from Occupational Therapist or a language assessment from Speech and Language Therapist if indicated)
• feedback either on the day of appointment or shortly after if there is further information needed
• a full report

This ensures there are no ‘add-ons’ or hidden charges as part of the process. For transparency, we do not currently prescribe medication from our clinic. We can recommend appropriate pathways or services if this is something deemed appropriate or clinically indicated.

Assessments take place at our clinic in Henley in Arden. The clinic does not have wheelchair access and there are stairs up to the rooms. Please inform us if this would be a barrier to you attending clinic.

If we have a waiting list, we will make this clear on the homepage of our website. We do not currently hold a waiting list and we anticipate from the time of the initial consultation you should be offered an appointment within 4-6 weeks. This allows us time to gather information needed prior to the clinic date.

We have good relationships with a number of NHS services who are aware of our clinic and how we conduct our work. Additionally, we follow NICE guidelines as appropriate and necessary. You can access the guidance issued for Autism here:

Alongside NICE which offers guidance on what a good assessment should include, further guidance was issued by NHS England in 2023. This outlined what a robust and thorough Autism assessment should look like as well as giving guidelines on who is best qualified to carry out which elements of the process. This can be found at:

In terms of seeking private help, there is also documentation to support this as a valid and important choice for families. The Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice 0-25 years guidance from January 2015 states that ‘families may receive help from an independent supporter provided by private, voluntary and community sector organisations who are independent of the local authority.’ It further states that the local authority and commissioners should ‘consider the role that private, voluntary and community sector providers can play in delivering services.’

Clinical guidelines around Autism identification stipulate that a basic assessment should include 4 elements including a clinical interview, behavioural observations, integration of developmental and corroborative information and consideration of possible differential diagnoses.

An enhanced assessment has the same four elements but also includes 2 or more clinicians, the use of validated tools, broader assessment of clinical presentation (for example cognitive functioning and/or sensory processing) and liaison with other involved services. According to these guidelines, we offer an enhanced Autism identification process as standard at The Psychology Centre.
